Lesson 5

The Do Phase

(5.1) Project Launch:
               
Introduced the project with common instructions in the class room.
Divided the entire class into five groups with a group leader.
Assigned the work to each group
Explained the task to each group with the objectives , rules, procedure and expectations.
Objective: to learn the formulae of area and volume of cuboid.
Expectation: apply the concepts in practical situation.
(5.2) Artifacts:
               
Collection of data.
Mapping of class room.
Calculation of area and volume of cuboid.
Power point presentation
(5.3) Culminating product:
               
Calculation [part in the activity book.   Soft copy of PowerPoint  presentation .
(5.4) Celebrating completion:
               
Students will get grades of one activity for FA4 after the completion of project.

Lesson 3- Plan Phase

3.1 Work Breakdown, Products and Milestones:
           
Take the dimensions of the class room, windows, door, black board,  white board and display boards.
Calculate the area of four walls, roof, windows, wring boards and display boards.
Find the area of the region is to be painted.
Enquire the cost of painting per meter. Find the total expenditure for painting.
Calculate the volume of the water tank with same dimensions.
Prepare the power  point presentation
Draw the map of class room
3.2 Role definitions:
            .
Group I:  Measure the area of the region to be painted. Find the volume
Group II: Find the area of Display boards, white board and Black Board. Find the number of rectangular sheets required to decorate the board.
Group III : Find the area of windows and find the length of cloth required to make window curtain.
Group IV: Find the expenditure for painting the classroom and putting window curtains.
Group V:  Make the power point presentation.
3.3 Task schedule:
           
Project started on 9th November 2016
End date 15th December 2016
Taking  measurements on 15th November 2016
Calculation of area and volume on 21st November
Finding expenditure on 29th November
           
3.6 Direct Instruction:
Learn the formulae for finding the area and volume of plane figures.
3.7 Reviews and checkpoints:
               
Weekly 5 minutes to get the progress of the task assigned.
3.8 Assessment plan:
           
Formative assessment based on the accuracy of data collection and formula used.
Summative assessment based on the presentation and co ordination of group members.

The Manage Phase

 (7.1) Process Management:
                
·         Planning

(7.2) Student Preparation:
                
The students will be told about the idea for the project 2 weeks before it starts. Usage of Microsoft Excel and Word programs should be practiced before the project.  Preparation of good questionnaire, qualities of a questionnaire ect. should be taught to the students.

(7.3)  Facilitation:
                
Use of the library and computer equipment will be scheduled and booked in advance.

(7.4) Progress Monitoring:
                
Daily before starting normal teaching, 5 minutes discuss with the group leaders on the progress of their respective task.
Ask them to record in the log book for the further reference and evaluation.

Team checkpoint meetings as well informally daily checking with teams and individuals on their work.

(7.5) Re-planning:
               
Because of  normal study schedule and exams  children are not regular in the project. So the project loose its regularity.  10 days of additional time allowance has been included.

(7.6) Conflict Management:
                
Teamwork rules will be included in project launch presentation. Students are asked to initially try to work out conflicts on their own. In the case of a deadlock, issues are to be raised with the teacher. Lack of participation will be dealt with by culprits being removed from the project work and set to work on alternative individual tasks for the duration of the project.

(1.11)Introduction:

The project aims to take a leap from the “recycling” world into the world of           ” reuse “ & tries to bring out interesting ways by which people can incorporate used plastic trash into their arts and other useful accessories.
To spread awareness among people regarding the less usage of presently available limited resources.







(1.12)Project Scope:
            
Students of class X C will undertake this project work which covers the subjects pertaining to daily life situations.Project focuseson the reuse aspect of plastic bottles and drawing creative ideations for the same. The idea of reuse can be implemented at larger levels through campaigns, workshops….to create awareness among the society to for the use of plastic bottle and how they can reuse out of the refuse. This can heavily influence the way people behave with plastic bottle.

The Review Phase

After the presentation of each group , students from other group will do the peer group analysis (four students will say on two strength, two weakness, two opportunities, and two limitation of the topic/presentation each.

The Do Phase

(5.1) Project Launch:
               
The project will be launched as meeting with the whole class.
There will be a presentation covering goals, expectations, rules, procedures, assessment and grading.
Students will be invited to discuss any of the above and we may make change as a result.
The final presentation will be printed and displayed in the classroom as well as being posted in PBL Blog

(5.2) Artifacts:
  • Log book of day to day contribution/work done by the student.
  • Survey questionnaire

  • Video-presentation.

(5.3) Culminating product:

Women in Mainstream - Lesson 2

Lesson 2
2.1 Essential Question:
·         Are women getting equal status as men in our society?

2.2 Grouping Strategy:         
·         Team will comprise groups of 7 students of mixed gender, and mixed ability and skills.
·         The main aim is to promote teamwork in mixed ability groups.
·         One goal is to promote opportunities for higher ability students for peer instruction and lower ability student’s benefit from the more advanced collaboration that will arise from this.

2.3 Learning Environment:
·         A good class room environment for group activities.
·         Computer labs are used for online works.
·         Collaboration between students will take place through email/blog/whatsapp.

2.4Assessment Approach:
                2.41 Authentic Assessment:
Authentic tasks such as
1.      Collecting the number of working mothers in class
2.      Number of lady teachers teaching in their class

                        2.42 Formative Assessment:
Regular feedback will be provided as the students work on internet and library research, survey, data sheet and presentation designs.

2.43 Summative Assessment:

·         PowerPoint presentation on famous women leaders of India/web design

2.45 Grading:
Project grades will be based on a combination of scores from assessments made during the project. A rubric will be used to compile grades.




Water - A Precious Resource - Lesson 3

Lesson 3- Plan Phase

3.1 Work Breakdown, Products and Milestones:  
Ø  Classroom instruction: Basic information on1. Hydrosphere 2.Water pollution3.Water conservation.
Ø  Select student groups.
Ø  Giving task to student groups.
Ø  Research: online and library (research report).
Ø  Survey: Data collection of Public wells, public taps and rain water harvesters in the selected locality.(survey reports)
Ø  Survey: Reasons for the water pollution. (survey reports and statistical analysis)
Ø  Activity:  Experiments (Different methods to purify water).
Ø  Activity: Chart preparation
Ø  Presentation: Power point presentation on Tips to conserve water.(student’s briefing)
Ø  Mini exhibition on water as a precious resource.

At the end of every week there will be 20 minutes discussion to discuss the progress, successes and challenges.
A checkpoint meeting for each team will be held for 10 minutes twice per week.
