Lesson 2

2.1 Essential Question:

·         Are women getting equal status as men in our society?

2.2 Grouping Strategy:         

·         Team will comprise groups of 7 students of mixed gender, and mixed ability and skills. ·         The main aim is to promote teamwork in mixed ability groups. ·         One goal is to promote opportunities for higher ability students for peer instruction and lower ability student’s benefit from the more advanced collaboration that will arise from this.

2.3 Learning Environment:

·         A good class room environment for group activities. ·         Computer labs are used for online works. ·         Collaboration between students will take place through email/blog/whatsapp.

2.4Assessment Approach:

                2.41 Authentic Assessment:

Authentic tasks such as

1.      Collecting the number of working mothers in class

2.      Number of lady teachers teaching in their class

                        2.42 Formative Assessment:

Regular feedback will be provided as the students work on internet and library research, survey, data sheet and presentation designs.

2.43 Summative Assessment:

Assessment will be conducted on ·         Team  portfolios in blogs/emails ·         PowerPoint presentation on famous women leaders of India/web design

2.44 Rubrics:

Rubrics will be used to assess: Surveys Data sheets Final presentations Blog

2.45 Grading:

Project grades will be based on a combination of scores from assessments made during the project. A rubric will be used to compile grades.

Lesson 3- Plan Phase

3.1 Work Breakdown, Products and Milestones:  

Ø  Classroom instruction: Basic information on1. Hydrosphere 2.Water pollution3.Water conservation. Ø  Select student groups. Ø  Giving task to student groups. Ø  Research: online and library (research report). Ø  Survey: Data collection of Public wells, public taps and rain water harvesters in the selected locality.(survey reports) Ø  Survey: Reasons for the water pollution. (survey reports and statistical analysis) Ø  Activity:  Experiments (Different methods to purify water). Ø  Activity: Chart preparation Ø  Presentation: Power point presentation on Tips to conserve water.(student’s briefing) Ø  Mini exhibition on water as a precious resource.

3.2 Role definitions: 

Ø  Project leader: Teacher will fulfill this role Ø  Researcher: All students will be the part of online research and library research. Ø  Survey writer : Surveyor (all students will contribute to this) Ø  Presentation author : Presenter (all students will take some part in the presentation)

3.3 Task schedule:     

Ø   Date of Project Launch: 1/11/2016 Ø    Ø  Closing date of Project:  30/11/2016

3.4Special Activities Plan:     

·         Speech by resource person on water conservation. ·         Mini exhibition on Water a precious resource.

           

3.5Resources Plan:

Computer lab: Date and period in the Time Table.

3.6 Direct Instruction:

Ø  Direct sessions on tips to conserve water at home. Ø  Availability of potable water. Ø  Creating survey.

3.7 Reviews and checkpoints:             

At the end of every week there will be 20 minutes discussion to discuss the progress, successes and challenges. A checkpoint meeting for each team will be held for 10 minutes twice per week.

3.8 Assessment plan:

Ø  Authentic assessment: 1.Closing the taps after use in school premise 2. Surveys and results 3.Experiments and presentations. Ø  Formative assessment: Summative assessments will be performed on the survey results, presentations Ø  Rubrics prepared: Preparation of questionnaire and Result rubrics, data sheet rubrics and statistical analysis.

Authentic tasks such as ·         Closing the taps after use in the school. ·         Documenting the data of public wells, Taps and rainwater harvesting techniques in the locality. ·         Collection of data using primary data.

           

2.42 Formative Assessment:

           

Regular feedback will be provided as the students work on internet and library research, surveys, statistical analysis, and presentation designs.

2.43 Summative Assessment:

·         Power point presentation on the importance of water and need for conserving it. ·         Reports of survey and research.

(1.11)Introduction:  

This project is intended to allow class VI students to explore the following topics, 1.       To understand the importance of water. 2.       Problem of water scarcity 3.       Conservation of water 4.       Water pollution The students are intended to learn wise and judicious use of water resources

(1.12)Project Scope: 

Students from class VI. Subjects involved: Social science and Environmental science Student research will be monitored and managed to avoid students going off track and out of scope.

Class VI social science topics and standards related to this project: ·         Hydrosphere. ·         Scarcity of Water. ·         Water pollution through garbage disposal. ·         Dependence  of Indian agriculture on rain.
