Wastage Of Electricity

Nowadays wasting electricity is a serious problem we should focus on. First of all, school is a place where we waste electricity. Student usually forget to turn off the lights and fans before they leave the classroom. Sometimes teacher’s who is the last one leaves the office forget , to turn off the lights and equipments. It really waste a lot of electricity. Second, people also waste electricity in places  where the work. We can see lights shining in un occupied areas. And, after a big conference or even a small meeting, we can often find that the lights and air conditioners still works on. Just a simple action we forget, we may pay the price of wasting electricity .Last, we often ignore in our home. In the living room , sometimes we turn on T.V but fall asleep . it is not only wasting electricity but it also causes danger. Believe it or not ,wasting electricity is all around us ,we should try to save it and not to waste it.

Why do we need to conserve electricity?

It is important to conserve electricity because the natural resources that provide sources for electricity are being depleted faster than they can be regenerating. Conserving electricity also saves money. Since electricity prices are assessed in accordance with the amount used. Overuse of electricity also leads to high EMF emission to which some people are sensitive. Electricity requires a source to power it. The sources used to power electricity are natural resources such as coal, gas and oil. These type of resources are quickly disappearing because they are being used at a much faster rate than they can be replenished. It takes thousands of years for a coal and oil to form. Also, mining natural resources is expensive because it is very difficult and dangerous. Tapping oil wells, for example, requires spending millions of dollars to build a rig with the capability to drill thousands of felt into the earth. Coal mining requires workers to descend deep into the earth and to dig dangerous and sometimes unstable tunnel systems. Energy conservation also conserves these natural resources, which lowers the overall cost of supplying them to customers. The money that power companies save can be put towards research for finding alternative source for electricity.

Importance of Electricity

Electricity is one of the most important blessing that science has given to mankind. It has also become a part of modern life and one cannot think a world without it. Electricity has many uses in our day today life. essential item like food, cloth, paper and many other things are the product of electricity. Electricity also provide means of amusement, radio, television and cinema, which are the most popular forms of entertainment. Modern equipments like computers and robots have been developed because of electricity. Electricity plays a pivotal role in fields of medicines and surgery too: such as X-ray, ECG. The use of electricity is increasing day by day. Modern means of transportation and communications have been revolution by it. To maintain the life of human community and in order to facilitate the life, many important inventions were discovered. There is no doubt that the most important of these invention is electricity. We better understand the importance of electricity in our life during few minutes of power outages. They cannot carry out activities they made a habit of. For instance computer and television are the best examples of these. This is an indicator of how much electricity is important in our life.

Electricity in our life - Lesson 7

Project Plan – Lesson 7

The Manage Phase

(7.1) Process Management:

Introduction
Presentation of the topic
Providing opportunity for all the students to express their thoughts
Planning of the projects
List out the areas to be covered
Selection of efficient leaders
Group co-operation
Problem management
Finding out the solutions

(7.2) Student Preparation:

Gist of the project to be given to the students.Preparing them towards the various stages of the project.Collecting ideas from them and include their suggestions.Providing chance all the participants.Developing self confidence .Having a proper control of the team members.Group management.

(7.3)  Facilitation:

Try to obtain knowledge from newspapers, using the internet facilities from the school computers ,Issue the books related to the study,G roup discussion about the questions to be prepared for the survey, make necessary arrangement for the conduct of the survey.

(7.4) Progress Monitoring:

Conducting meeting with all their prepared reports and the presentation  of the topic  for the entire class.Based on the performance of the group they are graded accordingly.Best group  of the week is announced ,to improve the performance of remaining groups.Necessary corrections are made accordingly.

Group Progress

Testing the individual contribution made by the students towards the project.Knowing their role and task given. To see that even the below average child has been participating actively and has made his contribution in the project.Conducting a personal talk with the students.

         Individual Progress

(7.5) Re-planning:

"IF WE FAIL TO PLAN THEN BETTER PLAN TO FAIL" is a saying .Hence a proper planning is always necessary.proper planning and constant check of the project will help to keep the project to be in a right track. But still if it is found to move off track then necessary home works can be assigned.

(7.6) Conflict Management:

Selection of an efficient leader who can manage with all the issues created will be greatly necessary. But a regular check made by the teacher in between can also prevent the conflicts.Students who never made any contribution  to the project are to be warned in the initial stage itself.Tackling the conflicts and overcoming the problems is itself a part of the project.

The Review Phase

(6.1)Student Reflection and Evaluation:

Suggestions and ideas of the students are to be given utmost importance. The active participation of the students it self shows that the project is a success. Hence a regular talk with the students is very much important. They have to be given chances to express their ideas and views. Corrections in the project have to be done accordingly.

(6.2) Teacher Reflection and Evaluation:

I have prepared a teacher reflection and evaluation form to complete the covers:
·         The basic knowledge the student should have about Electricity
·         An area which has to be dealt very seriously in the society.
·         Conflicts and their solutions
·         Achievement of project goals

Electricity in our life - Lesson 5

Lesson 5

The Do Phase

(5.1) Project Launch:

Introduction of the project to be done to the whole class. Based  on it the students will be asked to present their ideas for the start of the project. Initially the need for choosing this topic is stressed, and their suggestions are asked. The class is to be divided into groups without any discrimination ,and without considering their academic performance. Inorder to manage the group an efficient leader is selected. Main steps of the project is discussed. Work plan is displayed in the class room.In addition to it the survey ,Questionnaire, report making is done, and a solution for thr problem of shortage of electricity is done.

(5.2) Artifacts:

SURVEY REPORTS
PREPARING QUESTIONNAIRE
PAPER PRESENTATION
POWER POINT PRESENTATION
GRADE SHEET

(5.3) Culminating product:

To create awareness among the students regarding the usage of electricity, teach them the basics of electricity, create awareness among the society regarding the over usage of electricity, providing them the tips to conserve electricity ,teach them safety measures to prevent electric shock, limit the usage of  electricity,First aid to be given at the time of electric shock.

(5.4) Celebrating completion:

Presentation of the project before the students of the school.Displaying the charts and presenting the power point presentation to the students in the morning assembly.Evaluating and providing the certificates to the participants.Conducting exhibition with the models prepared.
